Campaign For a Better Future.
"Investing" can come in the form of financial support, either directly or through bonds passed by voters. But it can also come through volunteering your time and energy.
Being in Real Estate has offered me the opportunity to see my hometown through the eyes of newcomers on a regular basis. There are many things on the lists of potential home buyers. Some want beautiful parks with lots of green grass, picnic tables, and room for kids and dogs to run. Others want unique shopping and dining out opportunities. The one thing that nearly every home buyer wants to know is, "How are the schools?" Because even if they don't have kids, they know what happens to the property values of homes in communities with poor school systems that have high drop out rates and little to offer young adults who do not intend to pursue college.
A high quality school system is quite literally the backbone of a strong, thriving community. But it doesn't happen in a vacuum. It won't happen without community support and involvement.
It all starts with the elected School Board...they set the policy and hire the Superintendent to implement that policy. A School Board should not adopt policy without seeking input from leaders within the community. Nor should a School Board just rubberstamp curriculums suggested by the state Department of Education. School Boards need to take the time to make sure the policies they are adopting reflect the values of the majority of the community.
Our schools are producing the citizens that will become the future leaders of our community and our Country. Are we educating and creating leaders, or are we educating and creating activists?
The School board is supposed to be the Gatekeeper against harmful school curriculums pushed on Districts by the State. They cannot be afraid to push back and say "NO! This is a BAD policy you are recommending that will harm our kids and degrade our community and we want no part of it."
I want to bring balance to the School Board. If you agree with my views on what the relationship between school board and the community that elected it should be, please vote for me in the Special Election on May 18th 2021.
I am running for the North Wasco County School Board Zone 5 position.
This zones includes 7th street to 23rd street from Trevitt to Kelly. It also includes some of Mt Hood from 17th to 23rd. And it extends past Kelly on east 9th & 10th as far as "G" street. The Dalles High School sits roughly in the middle of this zone.
I welcome your comments and feedback. And by all means, SHARE this with friends who live in this zone.
